Questions and Answers
Q1: I have applied for the CoE twice in the past and received it both times. However, the second time I applied through a Japanese language school but could not enter Japan due to the spread of COVID-19, and I returned the CoE without using it. Should I only record the first application in the "past application for Certificate of Eligibility" column?
A1: In the "Application History" section, you should document all your past CoE applications, regardless of whether they were used or not. Here's how to proceed:
- Record All Applications: Include details of both the first and second applications.
- Add More Fields if Necessary: If you need to record multiple applications, use the "Add" button to create additional input fields for each application.
Q2: I have visited Japan twice before as a tourist. In this case, should I fill in the "Application History for Certificate of Eligibility for Previous Visits"?
A2: You do not need to include any information about tourist visits in the CoE application history. The Certificate of Eligibility is not required for short stays such as tourism. Therefore:
- Exclude Tourist Visits: Do not enter any details about visits made under a short stay or tourist visa.
Guidance on Filling Out the Application
Make sure to provide complete details about each application in the provided fields. If specific events impacted the use of the CoE, such as the pandemic preventing travel, include a brief note in the remarks section accompanying the application history. This will help clarify any unusual circumstances to the reviewing authorities.
These responses ensure that your application accurately reflects your history with CoE applications and provides clarity on how to distinguish between different types of visits to Japan.
