・What is an application for permission to extend the period of stay?
The application for permission to extend the period of stay is a necessary procedure for continuing to engage in activities in Japan under the status of residence "Student" that you currently have.
・When can you start to apply?
You can apply from 3 months prior to the expiration date of your period of stay. It usually takes one to two months to receive a new resident card after the application is completed, so please apply well in advance.
・Five steps to complete your application
1. Receive a request for input to SpeedVisa from the school
You will receive an email from the school requesting you to complete the application process.
Click on "Accept the invitation" to move to the input screen.
2. Fill in the required information
Fill in all the required fields in each section and upload your certificate file.
3. Submit information to the school
Once you have completed the information, you can tap the "Submit" button when the check marks in all sections turn green.
4. Apply to the Immigration office
In case the applicant (you) apply by yourself:
After submitting the documents and receiving them from the school staff, submit the documents to the Immigration office in your area.
Once you have entered your information and the school has verified it, a download link will be shared with you. Print it out and submit it to the immigration office along with the other required documents.

The school will apply on your behalf. Please follow the instructions of your school representative.
5. Receive the result of the application
If the applicant (you) apply yourself:
You will receive a postcard from the Immigration Office at your address. Please follow the instructions on the postcard to receive the results at the Immigration Office.
If the school applies on your behalf:
The school will receive the results on your behalf.
